WELCA WELCA
WELCA, The Women of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America, is St. Michael's unit of our national church's women's organization. Meeting once a month from September to May, WELCA is a group who engage in a spiritual discussion each time that provides support in faith as well as helping to establish friendships.

WELCA's primary mission project is a Christmas collection of hotel toiletries and other pampering gifts for men, women and children. Delivered to the Glades Area Pantry, thirty miles west of Wellington in Pahokee, these Love Baskets help to bring cheer and dignity to people who face poverty.

WELCA is open to any woman of St. Michael and presently appeals to women who are Baby Boomer age or older.

For more information about WELCA go to their national website at www.womenoftheelca.org/

An offshoot of WELCA are occasional Ladies' Night Out events at a local restaurant. These fun fellowship times around a meal serve a larger group of women, beyond the base group of WELCA women.

Book Discussion Group
Once a month interested readers gather on a Wednesday night for lively discussion of the most recent book choice. It is a varied and eclectic group reflected in the range of books that have been chosen. Any adult is welcome to attend,, sometimes youth attend as well.

Swingles Swingles
This is a group for single, divorced or widowed women "of a certain age." They meet during the program year (September to May) for events such as game nights, restaurant outings, concerts and more.

Crafters
Women join twice a month at church to make crafts that can be sold at the Fall Family Fun Fair. Knitted, sewn, crocheted and beaded items are among the many things they make. And, it is fun.

Baby Boomers Baby Boomers & Bravehearts
This fellowship group, formed in late 2007, is for folks from the Baby Boomer generation, those born between 1946 and 1964, although no one is turned away as we do not check ID!The goal for this group is to help people make connections with each other in an easy going social setting. The group plans game nights, visits to plays and concerts and more.

Gen Xer
Folks in their twenties, thirties and forties have a place to make friends and establish a support system with this fun group that meets every other month for game nights. Singles and couples participate in things like Taboo, group Pictionary, Trivial Pursuit and more. Child care is provided since many folks have young children. With that in mind, the group meets at the parenting friendly hours of five to seven PM.
