Our Pastor
Pastor Marjorie Weiss began her ministry at St. Michael in June 2004. Her main pastoral gift is preaching. Her sermons are ones that make the Bible relevant to contemporary life through her narrative style, stories and humor. Worship is also enhanced by her lovely singing voice when she chants parts of the service. Other gifts she gives our congregation are a passion for teaching and being well organized in administration tasks.

Ordained June 1, 1980, following graduation from the Lutheran Theological Seminary at Philadelphia, Pastor Weiss grew up and was shaped by a typical baby boomer family of four children, by small town life in Oley, Pennsylvania (near Reading) and by regular family participation in the local Lutheran church.

College years at Bloomsburg State College were a growing time faith wise. As she says, "I did not truly hear the gospel of unconditional grace until I became involved in a fundamentalist Christian fellowship group on campus. Only through them did I realize that my good deeds were not going to earn me salvation. Yet, the judgmental theology I heard in that group regarding infant baptism not being valid, and "knowing" who was saved and not saved based on their behavior was confusing. Thus began my interest in theology and my eventual decision to go to seminary." She was one of the "early" women ordained in the Lutheran national church.
St. Michael is her fourth call. She previously served congregations in Rome and Scotia , NY , and Danville , PA. Pastor Weiss is married to David Derr and is mother to Lynn and Angela and grandmother to Alexis and Michael. Hobbies and interests include, sewing, knitting, and flower gardening.
